Here's my story...
I started my journey as a copywriter over 20 years ago working for a small magazine publisher in circulation, the direct marketing arm of magazine publishing. I learned all about direct mail, testing, and tracking.
Whenever someone asked me what kind of work I did, I said that I was one of those people who helped put those subscription cards in the magazine that always fell out (those pesky cards are known as blow-in cards, by the way).
It was an easy, quick way to describe the work I did. It was also something that people could relate to because anyone who has ever picked up a print magazine or newsletter has experienced those cards falling out.
So why did print magazine publishers (even today) use those cards? Because they work!
Those cards are a persistent reminder to subscribe. Just like email marketing today (which magazine publishers now use), those cards are a call to action for potential readers, reminding them that if they want that discount, they needed to sign up now!
Customers want to know that you are going to follow up on your promise. They want you to be honest with them, authentic, and provide them with reliable information that will inform them and help them with their buying decision.
